US presidential election today amid tough competition
5 November 2024
America. Voting for the much-awaited US presidential election is going to take place today. There are only a few hours left for the American people to vote.
Current Vice President Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party and former President Donald Trump from the Republican Party are in the field for that election.
With the election a day away, both Harris and Trump’s campaigns were focused on so-called battleground states.
It is estimated that the presidential election of the United States will be very competitive this time, which will be elected based on the combination of direct voting and Electoral College.
Some people believe that the change of power through the election of the president of America, the world’s most powerful nation with direct executive power through voting by citizens, will directly and indirectly affect the world. Both the parties have mobilized all their mechanisms to make their candidates win.In this election as well, the Democrats and Republicans have set their agendas, focusing on issues like immigration, gun rights, women’s rights, economic issues and the turbulent environment that is emerging around the world.
Even though the economy has tried to become somewhat viable after the Covid epidemic, the price increase has affected every level here. This election is viewed with importance as the impact on food items, fuel as well as all kinds of goods and services has created a difficult economic situation for the middle income earners.
The Democratic Party, which has adopted a relatively soft policy towards immigrants, has fielded Kamala Harris for the first time in the history of the United States to give a woman the highest executive power. On the other hand, former President Donald Trump, who is facing many cases, is working hard for his second term.
Swing states decisive
Of the 50 states in the US, the main seven are Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which are defined as swing states. Most of this has been concentrated in Pennsylvania.
Looking at the past election results of these states, Donald Trump was elected in 2016 by winning five swing states. Meanwhile, in 2020, Joe Wyden won six states and became president.
The issue of how important Pennsylvania is is confirmed by the advertising of one billion and 20 million dollars spent by the Republican and Democratic parties in all types of media in all types of election campaigns in that state.
This is also confirmed by the fact that 11 percent of the 10.53 billion dollars spent on advertising in the 2024 election was spent in one state.
In Pennsylvania, which has a total of 9.1 million voters, 1.62 million have voted through early voting. Voting will start from 7 AM on the election day in the said state.
Can the Nepalese vote be decisive?
The election committee is being mobilized in addition to the attention of the mechanisms concerned with the fact that the election of Pennsylvania, which is the state where the main competition is a vital ground, will be decisive. As about 25,000 Nepali-speaking people have the right to vote in that state, it is said that they can be decisive.
Dr. Harry Bhandari, an American politician who came to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to educate Nepali voters about the election, said that this place is very important because it can make the election decisive.
Bhandari, who mobilized 51 volunteers from Maryland under his leadership to ask for votes, said that every vote is worth it.
Bhandari said, “The way we are contributing to the politics here, it will become more motivating for the future generations. As an immigrant in the second generation, as Kamala Harris is making a proud history of Germa, we believe it will inspire many immigrants.”
“Politics is not only position and prestige, it works as a parent to deal with the many problems that come in people’s lives, to create an environment that creates employment opportunities for businessmen and to show a strong presence internally and externally through many policy changes. Therefore, I believe that Harris of the Democratic Party can be a strong candidate who can address such issues”, said Bhandari.
Pennsylvania is considered a key voting center. This is a vital ground state and it appears to have won by a narrow margin when analyzing the 2016 and 2020 polls. Therefore, he opined that the votes of Nepalese Americans can play a decisive role.
Abhishek Thapa, who participates in local politics, said, “Political analysis shows that there will be a lot of competition this time. In this competition, we believe that the votes of Nepalis are important.
We have visited the homes of every Nepali as possible to encourage Nepali speakers in Pennsylvania to vote. There are about 4,500 Nepalese voters in one region alone. We are encouraging people to vote from that place.”
Vinita Puri, who has been active in social and political work in Pennsylvania, said that she has been conducting various programs among the Nepali-speaking community to show active participation in the voting process and politics.
She added, “We have been running a campaign to make voters aware, so I believe that more people will participate in the voting process this time.”
Jeevan Dahal, who lives in Pennsylvania, called on Harris to win because he himself believes in the Democratic Party.
Similarly, Prakash Dhungana said, “As a citizen, we should participate in the voting and let the candidate we like win.” We came to America as immigrants. Using this as a constitutional right, a political roadmap should be prepared so as to provide inspiration to the future generation to join politics.”
Nepalese are also in favor of both sides
Although many Nepalese are in favor of the Democratic Party, which has a soft policy towards immigrants, there are also Republicans, i.e. Trump supporters. Nepali Americans have posted a lot of comments and posts on their social networks.
Analysis of the Battle Ground State
Pennsylvania is currently the state that has the most influence on American politics. Out of the 67 counties in the state, voters in some counties were found to be on both sides. Volunteers participating in the election campaign say that the supporters play a decisive role in the voting.
The last of the election rally
Vice President Harris addressed the rally to be held in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon local time as the final preparation for the election rally in the US presidential election, while Republican candidate Trump also addressed his supporters in Pennsylvania on Monday eveningAddressed.Today’s election will decide whether the election of the United States will create the history of a female president in the history of 248 years or whether former President Trump will continue his journey to the White House for the second time.
Although a total of 231 million are eligible to vote, only 168 million have registered for voting. Similarly, those who get 270 votes out of 538 total of Electrol College can win the election. Source DC Nepal
